So, it’s so difficult to find quiet time in my days anymore. You know kids kind of change that and especially two active 2-year-olds running from place to place and getting into things. I’ve tried to think of ways to try and include them since they need some downtime in their days as well, and then a client included me on her work with Giselle Shardlow who wrote a fantastic book on kids and yoga called “Rachel’s Day in the Garden”

On her website she included the benefits of yoga for kids:

Benefits of yoga for kids:

  • increases strength and flexibility
  • helps them relax, unwind, and calm down to reduce stress and anxiety
  • helps them sleep better
  • promotes interaction between adult and child, and between multiple children
  • improves their fine and gross motor skills, as well as their coordination
  • develops self-confidence, self-expression, and body awareness
  • promotes a healthy, active lifestyle

Synopsis of the book:

Join Rachel as she and her adorable puppy look for signs of spring in the garden. Crawl like a caterpillar, buzz like a bee, and flutter like a butterfly. Discover spring, explore movement, and learn the colors of the rainbow! Age group: Preschoolers ages 3-6.

I love how easy it is to learn the yoga poses and then help the kiddos understand them as well. Along with using nature names for each pose which helps them learn about nature as well. Plus the graphics are just adorable. The poses are not difficult and are easy to understand and follow along. This is a great way to connect with your child while teaching them to do yoga.
